  1. school is great for making friends (Even if it seems impossible)

the education you get at shool is far better then the one a untrained parent can give you.

im not sure why u wanna be homeschooled, but if it is because your unhappy at school, i suggest moving schools ! not going home..

aswell as not having any friends at home school, you will loose your social ability to interact with people other then ur parentss...

i seriously suggest trying it as long as u can at a actuall school. in the long run you will be happyer im sure..

    good luck in life

    xx

  2. I am homeschooling 3 middle school kids this year.  Twins who are 12, and an 11 year old.  Go here for info on hs in Wisconsin:  http://www.hslda.org/laws/analysis/Wisco...

But homeschooling is hard and takes a lot of dedication.  Maybe your mom doesn't feel like she can do it?  She totally can though - if she wants to there is lots of support out there for homeschooling moms.

  3. yes, you can be home schooled.  and it isn't that hard to do, as long as you take it seriously and do your lessons every day.  you need to find a brand of books you like, my family uses Ebeka.  you can do some research online to find other brands.  then you order the books you'll need for all the different subjects.  promise your mom that every morning you'll wake up and set to work doing your lessons.  and agree that if you don't prove you're responsible enough to work on your own then she can send you back to school after a 1 or 2 month trial.

i was home schooled until high school and i'm so glad i was.  i was able to get a whole year ahead in school, and when i had no problem transitioning to public school.

  4. There are lots of websites to help you out. Here's one in particular: http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/laws...

There are no restrictions on a child to be homeschooled.

If your mom doesn't feel capable of teaching you, you might direct her to an online public or charter school:

    http://www.wivcs.org/

    http://www.connectionsacademy.com/state/...

If you happen to live in this school's enrollment area: http://www.monroevirtualmiddleschool.com...

    ADDED:

If she doesn't feel capable of creating a program herself and is able to buy a program, she could teach you without having you sign up with a formal program like K12 or Connections Academy. There are lots of programs out there that can be used.

  5. I was homeschooled for 3 and a half years.

    PROs: (for me)

    Work at my own pace

Get up and get done as fast as I want

    Get ahead of peers

Start college or advanced classes faster

Time to volunteer at the hospital

More time to be involved in my church

I could vacation with my family any time of year and take my schooling with me

I could hang out with my homeschool group anytime of anyday

    CONs: (for me)

I watched too much TV on my own time

I missed out on learning how to deal with adolescence from peers

TOO much time with Mom. Which means there are more times to be CLOSE and BEST FRIENDS but it also means the fights are worse!

I found a way to cheat which held me back .. but I got a tutor once I was caught

Going back into public school was a ROUGH transition.

I got ahead in life. I got into horrible fights with my mother. I did not mature as fast as I should have. I learned to study for my self and prioritize. I do NOT intend to homeschool my kids. I was on that other end and under no circumstances want to have to deal with that. I think it is great for those who have the time to stick with it and remain active in the local homeschool association. I can understand why your mom wouldn't want to homeschool you. I can understand how exciting it might seem to BE homeschooled.

Trust your mom. Maybe she doesn't think she can. Maybe she doesn't want to. Whichever, chances are she's right.

It stinks, but after we grow up we realize they really did know most of what they were talking about... most.

  6. You don't want to be homeschooled!!!

  7. Is it because she isn't able to, or because she thinks it's not legal or possible for some reason?

If she isn't able to, there may not be much you can do.  Homeschooling, especially prior to high school, takes involvement on your mom's (or dad's) part.  If she has to work, has a medical disability (fibromyalgia, something like that) or otherwise feels incapable of homeschooling you properly, that's her decision.  (There are full-time working parents and parents with things like fibromyalgia who homeschool successfully, but it is that much more difficult and takes a lot of commitment on your parent's part.)

If she feels it's somehow not possible or legal, that's a totally different issue.  It is both very possible and very legal.  Here's a link to the laws in WI: http://hslda.org/laws/analysis/Wisconsin...  Here's a link to some of the many homeschool support groups where she can find both support and answers to any questions she may have: http://hslda.org/orgs/default.asp?State=...

    Hope that helps!

Edit - dettom, you need to check your facts.  Many homeschooling academies are accredited - heck, many are even virtual public schools!  However, high school accreditation means...well, nothing.  The only time accreditation really matters is if you're working toward an NCAA scholarship.

A diploma, from anywhere, is simply a piece of paper with pretty writing on it.  My "accredited" diploma from a public school isn't worth the paper it's written on, and I've never once been asked for it.  Colleges, jobs, grad programs...they don't give a flying cow patty about your diploma.  What they care about are your transcripts, test scores, recommendations, extracurriculars, and leadership ability - all of which, homeschoolers tend to have in spades.

Edit again - gotcha.  There are many different options.  You could go with something like a virtual academy, like WIVA http://www.wivcs.org/.  They currently offer K-8 and next year will be offering high school.  The program is free (it's a public charter, so you're still considered a public school student, but without the drama) and they send you the curriculum.

You can also go with a ready-made curriculum - there are so many out there.  Many curriculum choices, especially for students your age, are already planned out and scripted.  Some will even teach directly to you by CDRom or DVD.  (My son uses two such programs for Spanish and algebra.)  Can you let us know how you like to learn - for example, by reading, by listening to audiobooks or documentaries, by computer, or by doing projects - and we can give you links to curriculum choices that might fit what you need?  (Also, let us know if you're looking for something Christian or secular, there are many choices for both.)

    Hope that helps!

  8. homeschooling programs are mostly scams be very care full I'm not aware of any that are accredited ( you cant get into a good university without attending an accredited school) they charge you an armload of $$ and your diploma isn't even worth the paper it's printed on,  stay in school and go to college because being poor is no fun at all.

  9. Homeschooling ruins social life.

  10. If this is soemthing you really want, work for it. Show your mom that you can be responsible, find out information and be respectful to her.

See http://virtualonlineschool.blogspot.com for an article on how to convince your parents to homeschool you.

    Best of luck,

  12. Yes, you can be home schooled i was. You should tell her that its much better.

  13. I think you should ask your mom if you can go to a private school. Why do you hate the school? If you want out of your current school you can't just say you hate it because your mom won't bealieve you.

  14. ,uhmm..study at school because it will make your self be sociable,

think about it,can u have a group work in homeschooling?group work can also help your mind to be activate.

  15. u r 12, so u can try to find out how will be homeschooled...

just want to ask, y u hate ur school?  u must first deal w/that feelings, then u must decide and be firm w/ur decision... whatever it is...

if u have read the other yahoo answers, it will confuse u, if u will go on or not... espeially the pros and cons... get my point?

in home schooling ur parents will have greater responsibility,  they will be the one to keep records and ensure that u will have all the credits that u need to go up to next level...

in home schooling, u have all the privilege, but tougher responsibility on ur part... to set goals, to work on that goals, and to be determined to reach the goals that u set... for the day,  for the week or for the month... u will either be ahead or lagging... are u aware of that?

but the good is, u have all the time in the world, to get ahead, and accelerated as early as possible u want, so u can do other activities u wanted to engage in...

all of the things that r being done in regular schooling can still be in home schooling except for walking in the aisle to ge ur diploma, wearing toga and white/black gown for graduation, medals and other honors that u will get yearly... and so fort...

if u have carefully thought of those things, and accepted that it will be a big difference... then and there, u can be decisive and go on...

i will just leave u this:  every decision that we make will always have a result or consequence that may either develop us  or make us regret ...

  16. yes you can be you can be homeschooled at any age call up the school you are supposed to be going to and they should be able to help you get set up for it

  17. wow, some of the people here don't even know what they are talking about. (the people that say you shouldn't even be homeschooled).

if you weren't homeschooled or don't know anything about it then don't answer homeschooling questions.

i just wanted to say something. plus the two points =)

    good luck! =)

first, check your state's homeschooling laws.

  18. s***w ALL OF THESE PEOPLE.

Yeah, just had to get that out there. So now, I'm not sure about homeschooling in Wisconsin, but I know it's possible for anyone to be homeschooled. I don't know why your mom would think you can't just because you're in middle school. Then again, my mom thought weird things about homeschooling to, until I set her straight... hah. I would check the hslda.org website, for your state. It'll tell you what needs to be done to homeschool. I would check it for you, but I'm incredibly lazy  Or you could try calling the school board. But I've heard that they'll give you c**p because they're not really for homeschooling. (Because they're extremely uneducated on the subject, much like the people who answered your question)

I live in Louisiana, and we have two options. The first one is home study, which is basically doing everything you do in school, except at home. You have to take tests, send everything in. And then there's the private school option, where all you have to do is send in a letter saying that you're going to homeschool, and then you can choose to buy a curriculum or throw it together. We chose that one. Duh, who wouldn't?

Anyway, yeah. I would just try that website or google homeschooling in Wisconsin. You'll find something. Good luuuck. :]
