i received a parking ticket for parking longer that 2 hours in a 2 hour limit area. the sign is on a pole far from the spot and even if you could see it(its blocked by a tree) its not readable due to being up to long or weathered. under this sign is one that states you cannot park in this spot during the night. this other sign is clear and can be read. i have taken pictures and want to know if i should just pay the 15$ or can i beat this in court?

  1. Just pay the ticket, but maybe inform someone of how you can't even read the sign. Not so much to get out of the ticket but just so it gets fixed so this doesn't happen again :).

  2. I wish the tickets in NYC were only for $15! Here the tixx go for $55 or better depending on where the tixx written. But if you can't read the sign due to weathering and age, sorry Charlie, but to me that's 15 bucks I get to keep (minus whatever it cost for the film that won the case)!

  3. Wouldn't it cost you more to take time off work for your court date?  Just pay the fine.

  4. ITS A $15 CITATION.  I would spend more than that in gas to drive to tthe court house, not even counting the cost to park somewhere.

  5. You read the sign well enough to tell us what it said.

Judge is going to have the same question.

You can always throw it up and see if it sticks -- but be ready to explain why you did not know what that sign said when there was an identical one near by. And/Or why you could not tell what the sign said then...but can read it well enough to tell the court what it says.

Personally, for 15.00 - I'd just pay it. Costs me more to lose the time from work to go to court. But you should let the DOT know about the tree blocking the sign and it being faded. You may be able to call them and find out where to send a quick note with copies of your photos.

  6. Fight it for fun!

(Cost me $300 to fight a $7 ticket, ticket was thrown out)

  7. Straight answer to a straight question- CAN YOU BEAT A PARKING TICKET BECAUSE YOU CAN'T READ THE SIGN? I should say you cannot beat a parking ticket. Your excuse is very lame in nature, under the law it is stated that: IGNORANCE OF THE LAW EXCUSES NO ONE IN COMPLIANCE THEREOF..even if you will tell the judge that you didn't see it because it is behind some trees is not an excuse, the sign is there so therefore the law presume that everybody knows about it except you? Out of 20  million people you are the only one who doesn't know about the sign? That is ridiculous. HOW COME YOU KNOW the sign when you said it is unreadable, or cannot be read. Besides, the point how long have you been driving a vehicle only now? I have been driving myself for 30 long years and I have seen all kinds of signs on the road even if the weather some how demote some letters I already know what it is. But since you been driving around the city for quite a while you should know all the sign by now.

WHY NOT BE A GOOD MODEL CITIZEN AND JUST PAY the amount the city impose on parking longer than the sign says, that way you are being taught by the city to follow rules and regulations at all times and not mess everything up just to escape the fines.
