  1. As ppl have already said, it depends on the force you're trying to get on with.  Austin PD requires it's applicants to have a certain number of credit hours and/or military experience.  But, the degree helps boost the pay.  Those with a degree earn more than those cops without a degree.

Get your education.  That badge and gun will still be waiting on you once you get your degree.

  2. id have thought it was least of all a requirement around the country to have a 4 year bull **** degree kinda like pilots they can have any degree only problem they still have to qualify...plus it does help if u have some kind of law enforcement degree....good luck...piece of advise, just go back into the service the pay is the same, only being in the service and being prior service yer rank will pay more then the time it takes to get to arrest some jackass...

  3. Sure, while some departments require college degrees.

    Alot of departments do not.

Like NYC and LA, which are always looking for ex military.

Nashville tried to go toward a requirement of a college degree, but ended up having to end the program, because they were not getting enough recruits.

  4. Yes you can. Some police departments only require that their officers have a high school diploma or GED. Some require 30 college credits or a two year degree. Some require 60 college credits or a four year degree.  Some departments that have college requirements will waive some or all of those requirements for those that have qualifying military experience. However, I would suggest obtaining a degree first if possible. It will allow you to be more selective about what departments you apply for. It will also probably benefit you after you become a police officer if you try to get promoted to a supervisor position or an investigator position. Some departments also pay their officers more if they have degrees. Check out http://www.peaceofficerjobs.com for excellent information and advice about getting a police officer job.

  5. Well for the State of Minnesota it is

    2 years of college

    and 6 months of skills

    OR

5 years ACTIVE duty MP in which case you have to take the Peace Officer Test(not exact name)

  6. It depends on the state and there POST licensing requirments. My state requires at least an AA in Law Enforcement and a lot of departments are now requiring a BA or BS in Criminal Justice with Law Enforcement Skills courses.

What state are you from or do you want to be a cop in?

Typically a lot of southern states have less standards and usually pay less.

  7. I think you sure can .Go to your local law enforcement office and get those papers we need good cops in this world and good luck

  8. Yes, but you usually have to get the degree to advance. A lot depends on the individual State and Department. Requirements are all over the place in law enforcement. Generally the harder they are to get into, the better the job.
