  1. I took the class last year. The pretest is a 500 swim followed by a brick retrieval. For my class, the swim was just completion, but the brick had a time limit. We sat in a class room and watched lots of videos. Once we saw the stuff we would be learning, we went to the pool and tried it out. On the final day of the course, we had our testing. They would have one at a time sit in the stand, while the others in the group were given a scenario. They acted out and you had to save them. Then there was the written test. The questions were pretty basic. All in all, it was not too challenging. However, it is alot different on the job. I love the job, but it can be quite scary when something does happen. Make sure you are always focused on the pool and ready to react. Good luck!

  2. To become and American Red Cross lifeguard you have to take their course. The prerequisites for that course generally include a 500 swim in a certain time limit, a brick retrieval, and other skills.

The training can be difficult if you aren't a strong or experienced swimmer, but if you really want to do it you probably can. See this website for more information: http://www.redcross.org/services/hss/aqu...

  3. yes you can become a life guard. There are classes you can take and if you pass them Red Cross can give you a license saying that you can become a lifeguard. But be aware that someone could need help and you would have to save their life.
