I agree with c4urself, but would add that you haven't indicated whether or not you were convicted of the dwi.  If the case was dismissed or you were found not guilty after a trial, then you should be in the clear. You should petition to have your record expunged. In Illinois, for instance, a licensing agency is prohibited from asking whether you have expunged your record, and you are not required to disclose expunged arrests, and they therefore would have no knowledge the charge. But if you were found guilty on the dwi or entered a guilty plea on the dwi, most states do not allow you to expunge the record. You should check the guidelines for nursing certification in the state where you intend to get your nursing certificate.


  2. That is a tough question.  Once one is already a nurse, the only type of crime that can cause one to lose his/her license, usually, is the conviction of a violent crime.  However, if one is trying to obtain a nursing license, the state might frown quite heavily on a DWI.  It will depend on what state you are from and how that state will consider the case.  Good luck to you!
