  1. If you really want to become a citizen of Switzerland there will be alot of papers and time involved. Not to mention if you want to become a permadent citizen you would have to relinquish your citizenship. Your bloodline does not matter. They will not grant you citizenship based on the fact that your last name is Swedish. Or that your cousins are from there, they already have citizenship.

  2. Sorry!  You would probably have to become a legal resident and then become a legal citezen, Just like the legal immigrants coming to the USA becoming legal residents and then taking the test to become a legal citezen of the USA!

Then you could say you were Sweedish!  In all legallities you would have that right, just as someone becoming a legal citezen in the USA could call themselves an Amercian!

    Make sense?

  3. No....not simply due to relatives.

    According to Swedish nationality law;

Citizenship is conferred primarily by birth to a Swedish parent, irrespective of place of birth.

In general, children born in Sweden to foreign parents do not acquire Swedish citizenship at birth, although if they remain resident in Sweden they may become Swedish later on.

Swedish citizenship can be acquired by naturalisation, also known as citizenship by application.

A foreigner may be granted Swedish citizenship upon meeting certain requirements, including:

1  holding a permanent residence permit, unless a citizen of a Nordic Council country. For citizens of European Economic Area nations, limited residence permits for five years equate to a permanent residence permit.

2  5 years residence in Sweden.

A number of exemptions apply to the residence period:

the residence period is reduced to 4 years for recognised refugees and stateless persons.

1  citizens of other Nordic Council countries are only required to have two years residence in Sweden.

    2  former Swedish citizens

3  those employed on Swedish ships

4  persons employed abroad by Swedish corporations

5  a person married to a Swedish citizen for at least 10 years, who does not live in his or her native country, and has 'strong ties' to Sweden

6  a person with previous long residence in Sweden

  4. This might be a good question for immigration, since if you move to Sweden to become a citizen, that is what you will be doing.
