  1. Going a little deeper:

Most sub amps are single channel amps so unless you have a pair of them lying around that alone is enough of reason not to do it.  On the off chance that you did have two amps it would still not be a good idea as most "sub" amps that have the processing built in run a low pass cross-over that runs variably between 40 and 160 hz.  Even the woofer speakers in your tower speaker are an integral part of your midrange sound and depending on their design either probably don't have a low pass crossover in them at all or have a crossover point that is set dignificantly higher than what the sub amp is designed to do, leaving a large "hole" in your over all frequncy response.

The poster above is right in mentioning that a few reciever/amplifiers have the ability to bi-wire or bi-amp your speakers depending on the input configuation on your speakers.   I use several models from Yamaha that will support this, but I haven't heard drastic differences with any but the higher end speakers that will allow me to bi-amp them.

  2. No.

If you have a stand alone amp you use for your lows and it is made for a box sub-woofer then no.

To bi wire a speaker you want four amps all the same make and model. You want to wire one amp to the highs and mids and one amp to the lows of each speaker.

Some Receivers will allow you to assign the rear surround or Speakers B to be sent out to your front speakers for a bi wire configuration.

I have a Pioneer Elite VSX 59 TXi and Bi Amp my speakers with.

    Hope this Helps
