Is it possible to break a normal lighter (the ones where if you shake it, you feel and hear a substance sloshing around inside) and use the fuel inside to refill a zippo lighter? Thanks!

  1. You can open your Zippo and refill it with fluid but I would not recommend using a regular lighter to do so.  You can get cans of fluid from like truck stops and I'm sure other places.

Here are step by step instructions.

    And here is a video.

  2. im pretty sure that refilling a zippo consists of putting a container of pressurized liquid with a kind of tip on it on to a certain opening on the zippo that shoots the liquid into it. i doubt that the lighter fluid would be able to get into the zippo without breaking the zippo in the process.

  3. Usually if you puncture disposable lighters they explode. I wouldn't recommend it

  4. NO... any "normal lighter" like a BIC or Sharpie contains BUTANE gas.  Under the pressure inside the lighter it is liquid, but when released it turns into a flammable gas.  There would be NO "fluid" to make use of.

IF You "break open" a BIC lighter, the butane will EXPAND explosively, and if there is a spark it will EXPLODE.

"Mythbusters" on TV has done an experiment on this and it is NOT PRETTY

  5. No!! if its empty buy a new one! or use the lighter in your car (the lighter that comes with cars) and never try to refil it! it will explode! and the gasoline inside of it will start a fire on you hands if you try to refil it or take it back to the store and tell them it had no fluid inside and they should give you a free one and you shouldnt smoke.
