Can i bring a desktop computer into india?

I am a student returning to india, and i have a used desktop computer (only cabinet with parts in it). i wanted to know what exactly are the customs rules for this? i know a friend of mine took his and he ddnt even declare it, just walked through the green channel. so can i bring my desktop into india free of duty like that?

also this is over and above my laptop which i carry in my hand luggage. its a used computer.

  1. you can, no problems and no duty


  2. i know that you can bring a laptop, so i dont see why a desktop would be a problem.

  3. Yes, you can bring it with no problem.  

    If it is brand new, in packaging, then you might have to pay duty.

  4. you are only allowed 1 computer per person, so either courier the desktop to your home address and carry the laptop with u on person.

    It'll cost you less than paying if you get caught with 2 computers...
