  1. Not if you are a US citizen. They have no jurisdiction over this if it is a personal item (and not for re-sale in the US) if you are stopping over in the US to another country as a non-US citizen.

What the US government is really making illegal is the spending of money and buying in Cuba....not the travel in itself.

So if you're a US citizen, it won't be allowed in UNLESS you have a travel license issued from the government, permitting you to travel and buy legally there.

  2. If you're a US citizen, you're not allowed to travel to Cuba for pleasure or business. Only with a special permit for humanitarian or academic reasons.

If you manage to obtain the permit and are permitted to travel, you can buy one box and bring it legally into the U.S. You will need to prove that you bought it in Cuba and not any other country, so keep your receipt.

The penalties for traveling to Cuba without a permit are very stiff, so I would not recommend it.

And besides, by spending your dollars there, you're financing a repressive government.

  3. No - but if you take them out of the box and remove the bands, claim they are Dominican !

(You could even get someone to post the bands to you from another country, and put them back on once you get home).

  4. No...see site below...and you cannot legally travel to Cuba from the U.S. without a license...so if you travel there from a third country and bring them into the U.S., it will be a dead give-a-way.

  5. No, you can not go to Cuba.

United States citizens are not free to travel to Cuba.

Sorry, you are not totally free............

  6. Nope.  Check the U.S. Govt web site at http://www.firstgov.gov.

  7. I'm thinking that he is going to some caribbean island for his honeymoon and wants to bring back some cuban sticks.

Technically, you cannot for the reasons already stated.

However, its not a very widely enforced law - or so I've heard.

And just to let  you know, the overwhelming majority of cuban cigars found in tourist destinations are fakes.  You can be sure of getting the real deal if you can find a La Casa del Habano store.
