Can i bring lighter and cigarettes to us and canada airports?

I don't see why not. You just can't smoke inside the airport. I would recommend bringing a cheap lighter or even matches just in case some over zealous airport worker finds some reason to confiscate it. You never know these days. My daughter had her toothpaste taken away, and she's just a little girl.

Cigs are no problem, put them in your carry on and not on your person as they set off metal detector machine you pass through.  They dont care about cigs unless you got more than a pack or two.

Lighters    yes... sort of..sometimes!!

In Canada, no problems, I regularly put one thru with carry on in my handbag.  They let you have one.

However, in the US I have as well sometimes but other times raised the ire of secuirty screeners who told me NO lighters allowed in carry on hence the biggy Glad Bag of lighetrs in some US airports I guess.

Oh, and cant carry any liquids of more than 100ml.  (not sure what US oz. that is) in US or Canada thanks to the British bunch planning to use liquid explosives. .

You can always carry good ole paper matches ...

Cigarettes are fine (if you're over 18 and aren't bringing more than 200).  

Lighters--not on the plane, but some are allowed in checked baggage.  

From the TSA website:

Lighters without fuel are permitted in checked baggage. Lighters with fuel are prohibited in checked baggage, unless they adhere to the Department of Transportation (DOT) exemption, which allows up to two fueled lighters if properly enclosed in a DOT approved case.

You can bring cigarettes - allowed up to 2 cartons duty free when crossing the border. Lighters are not allowed, however you are allowed up to 2 packs of matches on board.
