  1. you can buy one for 170 bucks with a 5 year warranty...why bother building one????? here halfway down page : http://www.swimming-pool-information.com...

  2. The others answering this question alluded to this, but the best way to do this is to run piping on your roof.  Your piping from your filter is probably 1 1/2 inch piping.  You will need a splitter from 1 1/2 inch to two 3/4 inch pipes to run it on your roof.  The reason for that is that there is too much water running too fast in an 1 1/2 inch pipe to really make a substantial difference.  Then run 3/4 inch poly pipe (black) across your roof starting at the peak, then going back and forth across your roof down to the bottom.  You will need adapters at the ends of the roof because the pipe does not bend that well.  Get the same splitter as you started with except turn it around so that the two 3/4 inch pipes are rerouted into a 1 1/2 inch pipe and return it to the pool.  This should heat your pool very well by just using the sun.  Email me for more detail.

  3. I have seen a number of plans for home built solar collectors. One was an insulated wood box with a coil of black pipe inside and covered with plexiglass or fiberglass (light resistant type).

The more you build the more heat you collect. You will need to either add a pump or figure out how to tap off your existing system to run the water through the collector.

They can be built rather cheaply like that. Of course better, more efficient, material is available for a cost.

  4. often people circulate the water from the pool with a pump to a series of black tubes on the roof of their house.  the black absorbs the sunlight/heat and then transfers that heat back to your pool as the water circulates.

  5. do this i got my pool up to 92 degrees last year.  I took a black abs tube and a ton of black garbage bags and put them together.  If you already didn't know, heat is attracted to black.
