Can i burn data onto a blank dvd disk without a dvd burner?

i don't have a dvd burner, but i could really use the 4gb of space in blank dvd's to store some files and junk... can i do so with a regular cd burner?

  3. No, the technology for CD and DVD is not quite the same.

    But if your data is not in huge files, you can put them onto CDs. You'd need about 50 CDs to equal one DVD.

    If you borrowed  a friend's burner, you'd still not be able to READ your DVD with the CD writer you have. Combined CD/DVD burners are now going out of style, so cost a bit more. But external (USB) DVD burners are under $80, which is cheaper than getting more hard drive space.
