  1. Check if your TV has a DVI port. Then you can use a DVI to HDMI cable and separate audio cables.

If not, you can still use component cables. Your TV is small enough that you will not notice any difference in quality.

  2. The PS3 will output up to 1080i video over component or up to 1080p over HDMI. Your HDTV is probably 720p/1080i capable (not 1080p), so you can't take advantage of HDMI's 1080p capability. The PS3 will therefore deliver the best possible picture your HDTV can display using component cables (HDMI will be no better).

Your friend is wrong ... and you would be fine. Note that the PS3 WILL give a slightly better picture on a 1080p HDTV, but at 26" the screen is too small to benefit (even if it were 1080p).

  3. Your PS3 will work without an HDMI cable, but you will be missing out a great deal on graphic quality.

  4. I've had my PS3 running without an HDMI before and it will work. You just lose picture and sound quality without the HDMI cable.

As for the TV there are HDMI selector boxes you can use where if your TV has only one HDMI port you can use that for the selector box and plug mulitiple components into the selector box. If you wanted to switch for example from your ps3 to your blu-ray player you switch the selector box and it pops up on the TV automatically without having to search through all the input selections on the TV. I hope this helped at least a little..
