Can i buy a marathon bib from a girl and then race the marathon if i'm a guy?

I'm referring to the chicago marathon which doesn't allow any more entries. Can i buy it from my friend and use it. I think this is against the rules but how will i get caught? Will they require my ID on the check in the day prior to the race?

Whoa... probably not the best idea... because to my knowledge if you do that and it is againt the rules, you're probably not going to be allowed to run that marathon again.

however, how it works (usually) is that you have to pick up your packet. Most races will allow someone else to pick it up for you... You just have to coordinate with the race officials beforehand.

Odds are, you wouldn't get caught... Unless you did extremely well, which is possible since you'd be a male running for a female... and the time difference between the two are usually significant.

Yes, they require a photo id when you pickup the bib#. So, you would not be able to get the bib# to run.

But, if she can pick up the bib# for you, then you will not get caught unless you placed top 3 in her age group or better. But, as long as you do not claim the prize (or let her pick the prize), most probably you will not be caught. But I would highly recommend against doing that though.

you could run and not get an award. But you could run and that's the main thing right. Tell her to run and get your own though that is better. And really now that I think about it that's a big race so you may want to just be on the safe side. I mean if you taper and prep and then don't get in that would stink.

if you're good enough to place in your age group they will withold your award. all the numbers/entries are placed into male/female categories and someone will notice that you're not a women.
