  1. Typically you need a prescription, but they will give them to you in any pharmacy if you ask for something specific.

  2. All antibiotics need a doctor's order.

However, if it is some common antibiotic (and most of all not something strong), it is possible that you might find a pharmacist that will give it to you without a doctor's order.

Be on the safe side though and ask from your doctor for an order with the specific drug before your trip.

No pharmacist will refuse to hand it you in this case.

If you cant do this and you must take the trip before you obtain the order, visit a doctor here in Greece and have it prescribed for you.

It is not difficult to do so, many doctors do not even require an appointment, just walk-in :-)

  3. Yes, you can buy a range of antibiotics in Greece, at any pharmacy.

There are many pharmacies on the high streets of Greece and the Island towns. You can spot them because they have a distinctive green cross sign outside.

I've bought them twice (I live in Crete), and not had a problem. The chemists all speak very good English and will help you decide which antibiotic is best for your particular needs.

Don't forget to ask about dosage, because the information leaflet will be in Greek!

Get well soon (if they are for you!)

  4. Many countries have strict laws on what medication/drugs you can take into their country. I remember a woman took some codeine tablets for her headaches and got charged with illegal drugs a few years ago. Many countries do not have strict law enforcements in regards who and what is in the medications. I would be reluctant to buy any medications overseas. You should see your doctor who can prescribe antibiotics that you can have filled and take with you should you need them. A letter from the doctor is also a good idea as to your need for them or that they prescribed them. If you have family and friends over there then they may know a reputable doctor/chemist. Contact your local embassy and get information on this, as they usually have a list of medications that you cannot take.

  5.   I recently asked for some antibiotics that I get for a certain complaint and was refused.  They now need a doctor's prescription they told me.  I didn't ask if it was now law for all antibiotics though.

  6. Yes you can and a reminder anyone living in North America that medication drugs over there are stronger then ones found in the States.
