  1. umm if you have a refundable ticket you can cancel half of it and book the other one no problem.  You may have to pay a small fee and the difference in price (if there is one).  If it is non-refundable and you talk directly to the airline they may let you change your flight for a fee (probably around $50).  Your best bet is to call the airline, but you will not have to cancel both tickets (just the one direction).  If you are staying on the same airline you should be fine with switching, again for a small fee though.

See the people below me are only talking about cancelling tickets, I'm talking about transferring you to another flight not cancelling at all.  They should be able to do that no problem (as long as you remain on their airline) with a mininmal charge of approx $50 or less.  I've done it for people before, so if i'm capable of doing that the airline should be able to as well, if not go see a travel agent, we do them all the time

  2. see whats they said (northwest airline)

    Cancel reservation and request refund

If your reservation has no refund value, you will have the option to cancel all flights in your reservation. If you choose to cancel your reservation, an e-mail confirming reservation cancellation will be sent to you

If your E-Ticket has a refund value, the refund calculation will be displayed. Enter required contact information and confirm the refund request

Your reservation and E-Ticket will not be changed until after you confirm the transaction

Please note the following guidelines for refunding E-Tickets:

Only Northwest Airlines E-Tickets beginning with 012 may be refunded on nwa.com

The ticket must be issued using a fully refundable or partially refundable fare

All flights on your E-Ticket must be marketed by Northwest Airlines or KLM Royal Dutch Airlines

At least one flight segment on your E-Ticket must be available for a refund, containing a status of `open for use'

Cancel/Refund for up to 9 passengers in a reservation can be processed online

E-Tickets containing past date travel can be processed on nwa.com

nwa.com refunds and reservation cancellation is available for E-Ticket itineraries anywhere in the world.

All requests are subject to final audit and approval by Northwest Airlines Passenger Refunds

Any refund due will be made in accordance with applicable tariffs, and will be refunded back to the original form of payment on the ticket

Due to the nature of credit card billing cycles, it is possible that a customer may receive a credit, but the credit may not appear on the customer's credit card billing statement until the following month

If original purchase was made in cash or by check, allow 2-3 weeks for a refund check to be mailed

  3. Usually the airline will charge you money to change the dates on your flight schedule. You might want to call Northwest to find out what the policy is.

  4. Well if you already bought the ticket. You will not get your money back. They will take out alot of money. I was flying airtran and cancelled my flight because i couldn't go. They took out $85 one way. So if it was roundtrip they would take out more. And whatever money is leftover if their is any has to be used on Northwest (Airline you had planned on flying with to begin with) within a year of cancelling the ticket
