Can i challenge a 1099?

if the amount is way higher than the original payment was for can i challenge it?

It certainly helps if you can prove the amount.

I would always demand to be paid by check and photocopy the check before depositing it.  You can then use your bank statements and the photocopies as proof.

Note, were there any reimbursed expenses?  Those often get added to the invoice--and you just re-subtract them on your schedule C.

Yes you can if you have proof of the amount of money that you received.  You might want to go back to the company that issued it an ask them to correct it before you approach the IRS.
