Question:

Can i change my 08 civic lx sedan with 5 quarts of 10w-20 oil or does it have to be 5w????

i meant 10-30.. i guess ill do 5w-20 lol thx

  1. Not so fast, Your manufacturer warranty's your car using nothing but 5W-20. If anything mechanical were to happen to the motor the first the company would do is blame it on the wrong viscosity motor oil. There are dozens of reasons for Honda recommending 5W-20. It's will start easier in cold weather. The oil pumps to critical engine parts faster on cold starts. 85% of all engine wear occurs at start-up. That's the biggest reason for using low viscosity motor oil. It passes through the oil galleries with more volume than 10W-30. The oil pump works less, and the motor produces more power with lighter oil. It cools better. You'll get better fuel economy.

  2. All Hondas after 2004 use 5W20 oil.  Any other oil used could void your warranty.

  3. do they even make 10-20?  it should be 5-20, it will affet the way the car runs and your fuel economy.
