Can i change the settings on my wii controller?

Im about to get a wii so i wanna know if I can change the settings on my wii controller? were I can use as a normal controller like a gamecube controller instead of swinging my arm all the time or moving around I just wanna sit and press buttons,can I?

that defeats the purpose of motion activity. if you want to use a classic/gamecube, you have to look on the back of the game, top right hand corner, if it shows classic or gamecube remotes you can use them, if it doesnt, you can not.
