  1. I presume you are a permanent resident ( green card holder) in the U.S.  The answer is  NO!  If your green card is not current, or you have lost it...do NOT leave the U.S.  You will not get back in.  Actually, you will not be allowed to board an airplane for the U.S. without your green card.  This is extremely important.  People have written in here who left the U. S. without their green card ( it was lost and they had not gotten a replacement) and then were stuck in another country and were not allowed to return to the U.S.  Does not matter how many years you have lived in the U.S. or what explanation you try to give, you simply will not be allowed to return without it.  If you have it when you leave the U.S. and it is lost while you are gone, you must follow procedures for a police report, and going to the U.S. embassy to deal with this issue.
