Can i connect my surround sound system to my 1999 sony trinitron TV?

Either that is the wrong model number or that TV is known by another number because I did a search on it and came up with nothing.

Be that as it may, to be technical you don't want to connect your HT to your TV you want to connect your TV to your HT. In other words you want to hook an output from your TV to an input on your HT. Being an older set you'd be looking for red and white outputs if the set is stereo. A 1999 should be. It may even have a digital output which would be better.

But since I can't find your set on line I can't tell you much else at the moment. Double check the model number and you might also post your receiver make and model number, then I can tell you exactly what to do.

You need to connect the speakers to a receiver.

Then you can connect your TV to the receiver using its audio out cables for stereo sound.  Or you can connect your cable/satellite box to the receiver for both stereo and surround sound if you use an optical audio cable.

You cannot connect surround speakers directly to your TV.
