Can i connect relay 120vac , 50Hz to 120 vac ,60 Hz supply . and what is effect?

i have 120 VAC, 50HZ relay connect to supply 120VAC 60HZ , is there any problem or i can change to same supply ?

  1. I assume that is the coil voltage - the voltage to activate the coil which turns the relay on and off.  I'll bet it will work just fine.  Give it a try.


  2. Its the voltage you need to be compatible at all costs, a 10Hz differential to a relay coil is minimal and can"t harm it.

  3. NO!!!! They are not compatible and may cause a fire. This is a major problem with Euro. 50HZ coils, solenoids, transformers, etc. The coil windings and their insulating coatings generally will not hold up when operated on 60HZ currents and will over heat. That is why many such devices are specked at 50/60 HZ. If, in your case, the relay is only going to be used for very short intermittent use to control something, then you may get away with it. If not, you may well have a fire hazard there.

    If you can get your finger on the coil, you can try it pulled in for a time, but if you begin to feel it getting warm, turn it off at once. You should feel NO heat on the coil when the relay is active.
