  1. First, the following assumptions:

    1) You computer has a DVD drive.

    2) The "home DVDs" with the clips you want are full sized 12cm DVDs - not the tiny ones (8sm) that DVD based camcorders use.

    If yes to both these items, download and install a DVD ripper - I like HandBrake - http://handbrake.fr/

    Rip the video to a format your video editor likes (MovieMaker likes .wmv, .avi, .dv; iMovieHD like .mov, .dv, .mp4). When the video's ripped, grage the video files into the clips or timeline panes of the video editor and edit, and save and burn your own DVD (with WinDVD or iDVD) or make video data files suitable for uploading.

    If no to either of the two assumptions, repost and tell us which one is "no".

  3. Most movie DVDs has copyright protection, if you want to copy it to your hard drive, you must decrypt the copyright protection. Otherwise, Although you can copy the *.vob files to your  hard drive, but most media players cann't play it.

       So my friends recommend me to use "E.M. Free DVD Copy"  to copy DVD moives. I found the video quality that be copied is excellent. If your DVD moive size larger than 4.7G, you can compress DVD to suitable size.

    In addtion to, the  latest version add some usefule funtions like rip DVD to other popular formats, such as h264, Xvid, MOV, VOB, Mpeg, Mpeg4, Mpeg TS, AVI, WMV. so you can conveniently watch DVD movies on iPod, iPhone, PSP, Zune, etc.  portable players .

    free use without limiting;
