Can i create a local domain on my lan?

i am new to win server 2003. i just want to create a local domain(if possible) to manage all the user on my local area network. i want to create a custom name like "myDomainName" with out a ".com" on it.

appreciate your help/ideas.

  1. If you have access to it Windows Small Business Server 2003 is Server 2003 but with wizards for all that stuff, makes it relatively easy to set it all up.


  2. run dcpromo from the command line and use .local extension instead of .com

  3. Unless you register a Domain Name with the Internet Naming Service, any domain you create will be a local domain. ie: name.local.
