Ive suspected my daughter of having something wrong with her for nearly a year. She has had severe diarrhea along with constant hunger/thirst which i know may be related to the diarrhea. She is also easily upset and irritable often. I know these are signs of celiac disease but my doctor doesnt seem worried. Shes only 2 and this has been a problem now for about half her life, i just dont see it as a phase anymore... can i DEMAND that he do this test or should i just ask for a referal to a Gastroenterologist?

  1. You should have demanded this before now. You have EVERY right to have this test performed- if you doc will not do this, find another doc pronto- this is not normal for a 2 year old. YIKES!

  2. You most certainly can demand that a test be ran on your daughter, some insurances do not require a referral to go to a specialist, call your insurance company and find out for sure! I knew something was wrong with my daughters hearing and they refused to test her (3 years old) so i took her in myself and she had a 30% hearing loss in both ears! A mothers instinct is always right, if u suspect something is wrong DEMAND... do NOT take no for an answer!

  3. Ask for a referral.  If you have a family history of celiac disease and your doctor hasn't yet tested your daughter, that's pretty pathetic care.  They test infants now in the first year.

Most older doctors do say that if the caregiver thinks something is wrong, they are probably right. It's just a question of figuring out what it is and what treatment is appropriate.  There are not always answers either.

  4. yes absolutely!! You know your daughter best. Also she should have her lead level tested. These symptoms also sound like lead poisoning. It could also be Crohns. Check for diabetes as well. I will keep you in my prayers. I hope everything turns out OK!!

  5. As the mother you have a 6th sense about your child's health....DEMAND a test to put your worries to rest.

I hope after the tests are complete....it will be nothing.

  6. Yes, you can demand.  Although, I think I already told you the easiest way to get the tests done is to pay cash.  Insurance can and while refuse to pay for tests that the doc does not think are necessary.

Also, ask the doc to explain in detail WHY he is not concerned.  After all, the doc is the one with the medical degree, not you.

  7. Yes, you need to start demanding! Follow your instincts and make sure your little girl gets the help she needs!
