  1. If I may, you should uninstall both of these bloatware applications.

Instead, get the excellent free tools:

    1. AVG Anti virus:  http://snipurl.com/avg_free

    2. Ad-Aware: http://snipurl.com/free_adaware

AVG will take care of viruses, trojans, even spyware. Ad-Aware will fill out the spyware gap with even better definitions of common spyware.

Other than this, please use Firefox as your browser, and install AdBlock Plus plugin; you will never look at Internet Explorer again as it bans all the sites that are known malware. Firefox now also has inbuilt anti-phishing functionality, and AVG will add it's own anti-malware tools.

You may also wish to look at the excellent free tool, CCleaner, to keep your Windows clean and do some other housekeeping.

  2. I agree with MaXeY

    Both are excelent programs.

  3. i was under the impression that windows defender hogs resources and slows down the pc , anyway i guess you will be ok with disabling it

  4. Actually! You can use both.. It'll be more secure!

Hi, my name is Cody, and I’m with the Windows Outreach Team.  I noticed you had a question about Windows Defender and its relation to your antivirus software.  Keep in mind that Windows Defender is not an antivirus program, it is software that helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware.  You can disable Windows Defender without losing any of the virus protection provided by your antivirus software, but it could possibly leave you open to attacks from unwanted programs and spyware.  I hope this answered your questions, let me know if there is anything else you might need help with!

    Thanks,

    Cody
