Can i double up a 4 channel receiver to 2 speakers?

i have a marine stereo with 4x45 watts, can i put two speakers and double the power to 2x90 watts?

  1. yes, bridge them by using one negative from one side  and one positive from another side. the best would be to tie them together and use one positive and one negative...

  2. if you do as the previous poster says your on your way to frying that expencive unit. the answer is no. if you need more power buy a small 200 watt amp. also no hu makes 45-55 watts per channel. thats peak and most units only build about 17-20 watt perchannel. which is no where near what folks think they are buying. sorry to ruin your day but your unit wont make 180 watts :( sorry
