Can i drain a pool witout damage to the plaster?

i will be out of my house for about 5 or 6 month i have a 18000

galons pool if i drain the water while i am out it will get any damage to the plaster or it will be ok i ask several pool men anthey want to take care in a montly base

  1. Some pools can be perfectly all right even when drained for long periods.  However, it is more common that pools left without water for more than a few days become susceptible to various problems.  

    Depending on the soil type and level of ground water in the area, and perhaps rainfall as well, a pool can actually try to float on saturated soil.  If this happens, serious cracks can quickly develop.  This can totally ruin the pool or result in the need for significant and costly repairs.  Unless you are absolutely sure that your pool is on completely dry ground, and/or has a ground-water pressure-relief system in place, it is likely cheaper in the long-run to leave the pool filled and have someone maintain it for you in your absence.

    Other less serious problems can develop.  Weathering of the gunnite (or plaster) surfaces is possible.  Air pollution and acid-rain can have a serious effect and stain the sides or cause flaking & chipping.
