I heard about mischa barton being hospitalized after drinking and being on them, just didn't know if it would actually happen or not. I'm taking 1000mg 4 times a day, as perscribed by my doctor

  1. depends on the antibiotic. Some antibiotics + alcohol may knock down your kidneys. Ask the pharmacist.

  2. look on your medication bottle and it will usually tell you what not to mix your medicine with. I would not think it would be good to mix the two together. Alcohol can interact with many different things. Also you can call the pharmacy and they will be able to tell you. I do that sometimes and they are very helpful

  3. it would be like not taking antibiotics

  4. How about drinking H2SO4. Will give even bigger kick!

  5. If you can't go through a course of antibiotics without having a drink, there may be another problem needing to be dealt with

  6. If you have any concerns about the information below, or need any help understanding it and relating it to your own situation, you should talk to your GP or pharmacist (chemist). You can also phone NHS Direct on               0845 4647       .

Although it is sensible to avoid drinking alcohol when taking any medication, it is unlikely that drinking alcohol in moderation will cause problems if you are taking most common antibiotics.

However, it is necessary to completely AVOID drinking when taking the following antibiotics:

Metronidazole - the side-effects include flushing, breathlessness, headache, increased or irregular heart rate, low blood pressure, nausea and vomiting.Tinidazole - it is chemically similar to metronidazole and so may cause the same reactions. When taking co-trimoxazole and alcohol, there is a very slight possibility of side effects that are similar to metronidazole. However these effects are very rare and drinking alcohol in moderation does not normally cause a problem.

It should be noted that antibiotics may have a variety of side effects that might be made worse by alcohol, for example, sleepiness and dizziness. Alcohol is likely to worsen these effects. You should never drink alcohol and drive if you are affected.

You should always check with your doctor or pharmacist when you are given your prescription.

  7. no, the alcohol cancels out the antibiotics.

  8. NO WAY,

    PLEASE.

  9. There are a certain class of anti-biotics that will react with alcohol much to your discomfort!! flagyl for one , taken with alcohol will leave you with something similar to a niacin flush!! If you are not familiar with it -IT IS SCARY!!!! One's skin feels like it is roasting and all the nerve endings are alive!! That was one person's experience!! More importantly the effectiveness of the anti-biotic is nullified!!
