  1. I believe that is the law where I live...I am not sure if the law is the same all around the country

  2. haha life jacket is a must,,, and boats in ny u need to be 18 with a BOAT licence to drive,,, where im from i can drive the boat and im just about 16 almost.. so close.....but next summer im free game seems how we gotta shut down boating season round the first week sept. here..

  3. Sorry kid... But you are sadly mistaken... and so is Erin.

In order to operate a boat in NYS without adult supervision

individuals must be at least 18 years of age or have successfully completed a safe boating course.

Individuals less than 18 years of age who have not successfully completed a boating safety course may only

operate a vessel while under the direct supervision of an a NYS legal boat operator who is 18 years of age or older. The required boating safety course certificate must be carried by the minor at all times while operating the boat.

As far as the lifejacket goes - you must have one on board, but you don't have to wear it - unless your "boat" is a PWC.  However, who knows - after completing that safety course - you may decide you want to wear that life jacket after all...

    PS.

    Just a side note:

I also lived in New York

    and...

Think about it...  Why do you think the very-very best, and the most experienced boaters in any waters - wear their PFDs?
