Can i drive in the UK on an Southern Australian P1 License?

I have recently passed my P1 practical test and will be flying to the UK were i will be working and studying for 3 years. Can i use my P1 to drive in the UK, or can i exchange it if needs be for a full UK License?

  1. Australia is a "Designated" country in the UK, which means that an Australian full licence holder can swap a licence to a British one without a test.

    A few years that was straight forward, before the P licences etc came out.

    Looking at the info now available, it does not seem to clarify it exactly.

    If you are classed as a "Resident" you may well find that you can swap it for an equivalent version of your current one.

    However, someone that is NOT a resident will not be able to exchange a driving licence.

    And can only drive for 12 months, on an Australian Licence!
