  1. Generally u can drive your car into Mexico, but no more than 100 miles without a mexican govt permit.  Also you would need your passport and get a stamp in it.  MOST car insurance is good for short trips such as these.  If u are going further, then the car must be in your name, and you must show the title, or permission from the lienholder to take it....and most wont give it as the insurance doesnt cover it then.  You can buy short term policies at the border and check with your insurance company also.  You might also want to contact the closest Mexican consulate for further details.

  2. YES YOU CAN BUT IF THE POLICE STOPS YOU,,,,  THEY CAN TOW IT AWAY FREELY.

THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT THAT IS BUYING MEX. INSURANCE UNDER YOUR NAME AND THEY CAN'T DO NOTHING ABOUT IT.  IF IT'S DAD'S CAR,,, NO PROBLEM UT THE MEX. INSURANCE DOES HELP.

  3. If you are going past the 12mile checkpoint you must get a Mexican car permit...and the car must be in yor name. If you are only going into Sonora or Baja, you do NOT need the car permit.  see site below for complete, correct info.
