  1. depends why your a vegitarian...if its for the sake of the animals no, cows milk should be strickly for Babies and not human consuption, if you just dont want to eat meat then yes because milk comes from the cow but does not harm it in any way....there is no meat product in cheese if there were it would spoil

  2. There's three sources of rennet: animal, vegetable, and microbial (you thought I was gonna say mineral, right, right????)  Animal is verboten, but vegetable and microbial are safe for lacto-vegetarians to eat.

Best way is to call the manufacturer and ask the the source of the rennet, since there is microbial/vegetable rennet.  General rule is to avoid the french cheeses.  You can also do a quick search of the brand and add vegetarian to the query (kraft vegetarian, boursin vegetarian) and see what others who have done the research have said.

If you're hard-core, you can do all your cheese shopping at trader joe's and use this guide:

    www.traderjoes.com/Attachments/rennet_...

  3. yes you can it cheese .i am a 1000%   VEGETARIAN

  4. There are cheeses make without rennet, but rennet is derived from animal product:

This may help you make your food choices to maintain your veggie diet:

  5. nope, the "enzymes" are rennett.

  6. I used to work at a produce store and I think they have vegan cheese..

  7. Enzymes can be from either vegetarian or non-vegetarian sources. If the cheese lists ingredients and does not mention rennet, then it probably does not contain rennet from an animal source.

Take a look at the Vegetarian Society's page about cheese. It explains what they use for the enzymes in vegetarian cheese. http://www.vegsoc.org/info/cheese.html

As a fellow vegetarian, my advice would be not to eat it if you are uncomfortable about it  - give it away or swap it if you can

  8. Yes, If you can handle it...It does not agree with some people.

  9. OK. first off, all those things are synthetic, so none contain meat.

second, if you like the cheese, eat the cheese. I'm assuming you  are a vegetarian because you don't like meat and /or you have some medical problem that doesn't allow you to consume meat. unless you don't like and/or can not eat the cheese, please feel free to enjoy it.

  10. uhhhhh.  sure go ahead...

what else do you need permission from anonymous internet people for?

i have a novel idea for you.  eat whatever you want.

green light on the cheese. go for it.  stuff is tastey.....

  11. I always assume enzymes mean animal rennet unless it says different.  Many cabot brand cheeses are made with vegetable rennet or microbial enzymes.  It says on the label non-animal rennet.   Horizon is animal rennet free as well and some sargento shredded cheeses are fine as well.  They have a listing at their website what cheeses are animal rennet free.
