You should be able to enter the rest of the EU on an ID card (the French have one but I believe that the UK one will come out in 2009).

Until then you will still need your passport.

Where are you based? If in the UK, as if you are from any other EU country, you do not need a passport.

As an EU-Citizen you do not need to have a passport to enter another EU country but you do need an ID which is currently not available in the UK and that's why UK people need a passport
