  1. no. go buy pellet food or flakes. Worms might introduce a disease to your fish

  2. I would be worried about them being contaminated with pesticides, and possibly diseased, but if you can obtain domestically raised nightcrawlers there is no reason why you can't...

    except for being squeemish.

The problem with feeding bettas nightcrawlers is that most nightcrawlers are longer than your average betta...so you basically have to put them on the cutting board, squeeze the dirt out of them and cut them into little pieces (like the size of  betta pellets).

I've fed my bettas nightcrawlers before, but unless you have a bunch of nightcrawlers you need to get rid of, I would recommend using more orthodox treats.

  3. Yes.  You will want to let them sit in wet leaves for two days for them to expel the dirt from their digestive tract.  They should only be given in small pieces.

  4. No, they will just peck at them and you will end up having to take them out (to prevent your dead nightcrawlers from stinking up the tank). Betta prefer flakes or pellets.

If you really want to feed them live food, then use brine shrimp.
