  1. Seaweed as a supplement feed for pigs:

Builds resistance to disease by ensuring a complete balance of micro-nutrients

Organic trace elements more readily assimilated than in synthetic form

Assists nutrient absorption, healthy growth and animal performance

Provides essential roughage maintaining healthy intestinal function.

You will have to make the main part of their diet from a high energy, starchy feed. You could find a source cheaper than the traditional pig feed of corn, etc. Look around your and see what is available. Together with the seaweed supplement you should have an excellent feed.

  2. I suppose if he eat it, then give it to him.

  3. I don't know about seaweed, but when I was a young boy in the early 1950's, I lived on an 800 acre farm.  We heated our home with coal.

At the end of spring, the remaining coal (very small pieces) was feed to our hogs.  Now that my sound strange, but it's true.  I watched those hogs eat coal many, many times.

  4. It's a great supplement but I have never heard of anyone using seaweed as the main part of the diet.

This might make the meat fishy tasting.

  5. I really don't know. My hog is really picky when it comes to feed.....

  6. It is my understanding that a great many animals that graze and browse really love seaweed, and it is suppose to be good for them. I would try to get is as fresh as possible and rinse it in cool fresh water. Obviously make sure, especially if it is an area where a lot of people go to the beach, that there is no plastic, trash, or cigarette butts (or metal, driftwood, "sea whistles (ha ha)" etc." Boat trash is awful and boat pollution areas should be looked at with a great deal of scrutiny. I have heard that folks have or still do let animals graze on seaweed but I would remove excess salts and sand by rinsing when possible.
