Can i fill a hollow tree with foam?

tree is 200 yrs + and is starting to hollow. need help asap

  1. Of course you can, you can do anything you're big enough to. Not sure it will help the tree though, foam is pretty soft.


  2. Certainly it could be filled with foam. Presumably you wish to preserve the tree by keeping the rain out, so on top of the foam fit a flat sheet of plastic too..

  3. Contact an arborist to give you advice about the type of tree & the best way - if any exists - to save it.

    I cannot imagine that filling a living tree with foam would do anything except kill the tree.  Trees take nourishment from the soil through their roots.  Foam would only create a blockage of this flow of nutrients.

    Look in the yellow pages of your phone book or call your local county extension office to get advice.  If all that fails, contact the National Arbor Day Foundation at their website which I listed below..
