  1. If you do remember you get what you pay for ,,,,

  2. why don't you check hotel.com, travelocity.com, and other search engines.. or call a travel agent

    just research!!!

  3. A hotel in SJ, for that price, no.  It is pretty expensive here.  There are more tourists that want to come than hotel rooms in SJ, so they ask for big bucks.

Your best bet would be to check Craigslist.  They sometimes will have something in the price range.

I also think there are hostels in OSJ- Forteleza Guest house, or  Guest house on Tanca st.

If you are into camping, there are campsites around the island (not in SJ) where you can pitch your tent for $10-$20/night.

  4. I would think that a seasoned world traveler like you, would realize that the best deal you can get on a hotel room for the night or week or whatever, is when you are standing across the desk from the desk clerk.  They will give you their best price because they know you can just walk down the street to the next hotel and ask them.

You DON'T get the best price ONLINE... you get the best price IN PERSON.  I have saved as much as 60 percent just by being there in person... because that hotel knows that, if a room is vacant for one night, they will NEVER make the money for that night.. so they would rather rent it out at a huge discount than see it empty.

The same stradegy works in the Cruise Industry... If you are standing in the Cruiseline's office... with the ship being loaded for sailing in half an hour, just a short walk away and clearly visible through the window... they will make you a FANTASTIC deal on a cruise... but you have to BE THERE IN PERSON... not online.. and HAVE YOUR BAGS WITH YOU, ready to walk on.
