Can i find the serial number to my car stereo inside the remote to it?

my car stereo was stolen this morning my brother in law has the same one and the serial number is 8 digits i found a number inside the remote to mine that is 8 digits is this the same number that would be on my stereo?

Type it in to google and see if you get any results.  If you do and it shows the radio that you have then yes but if you get no results then its not the serial number.
