    the group displcement law , in essence is algebra's.... right = left...

    such that if yoiu add up the starting material's numbers "Z" & "A" it will  equal thr product,s totals of "Z" & "A"

    Beta decays:  releasinfg 0/-1 electron:

    14/6 Carbon --> 14/7 Nitrogen & 0/-1 e  (both sides add to 14/6)

    59/26 Iron --> 59/27 Cobalt &  0/-1 e  (both sides add to 59/26)

    239/93 Np --> 239/94 Pu & 0/-1 e  (both sides add to 239/93)

    90/38 Sr --> 90/39 Y & 0/-1 e  (both sides add up to 90/38)

    40/19 K --> 40/20 Ca &  0/-1 e  (both sides add up to 40/19)

    =======================

    alpha decay:

    238/92 U --> 234/90 Th & 4/2 He (both sides add to 238/92)

    235/92 U --> 231/90 Th & 4/2 He (both sides add to 235/92)

    232/90 Th --> 228/88 Ra & 4/2 He (both sides add to 232/90)

    239/94 Pu --> 235/92 U & 4/2 He (both sides add to 239/94)

    263/106 Sg --> 259/104 Rf & 4/2 He (sides add to 263/106)

    try this site:

    http://ie.lbl.gov/education/glossary/glo...

    click on "A" , then "alpha decay" & watch the video too

    click on "B",  then "beta decay"

    I also use this one alot:
