  1. No.  DSL comes through your phone line.

  2. Yes, it is possible to "unbundle" your PSTN phone service from the DSL Internet service bundle.

When you unbundle and disconnect PSTN phone service it is called "Dry Loop" or "Naked DSL" service.

I believe it is now law that phone companies have to accommodate requests for dry loop or naked dsl service.  This is to allow and stimulate competition in the telecommunications industry and break the monopoly the phone companies have had for so many years in the past.

The catch is that your phone company will probably charge you a disconnect fee to unbundle the PSTN phone service and charge you a higher rate for the Dry Loop DSL.... because it is UnBundled....

In which case, you may be able to shop around for a "competitor" who will offer you dry loop dsl service in your area.... at a cheaper price...

By law, your phone company now has to allow competitors to use their phone lines to supply you phone or DSL service.

  3. DSL (digital subscriber line) technology uses plain old copper phone wires to deliver data at high speeds to your home or office. It's the second-most-popular broadband service behind cable, and its subscriber numbers are growing. To get DSL, you'll need a phone line (your primary home phone line can work; you don't necessarily need a second line); a DSL modem, which usually comes with the service; an Ethernet card; and a company that's willing to sell the service to you at your current location. While DSL has become a lot easier to find over the last year or so--it's fast approaching mainstream status--some common myths still abound. We'll debunk them and set you straight on the facts of DSL.

  4. yes....you can!!!!

Verizon and earthlink have a dry(naked) line!

  5. as long as you are still using the phone line to connect but it really depends on who is selling you the service... but i do believe that BellSouth will do that...
