for example, if im buying an mp3 player from best buy, can i put the mailing address as the address of the post office and then put my first and last name , and then show up at the post office with my ID and pick up the item?

I dont want it sent to my house and i dont have a PO box.

How do i go about sending an item to a post office with intention to pick it up when it gets delivered?

  1. I don't know, but I'm guessing they would ask you to purchase a PO box.  This might be worth it to you if you want to do that more than once.

And even though you're getting packages, you don't have to get a large box.  I have the tiniest box available, and I get packages all the time.  They just keep my package on a shelf in the back and put a notice in my box, I just go to the window and pick it up.

Box prices can vary between Post Offices ... so if you have a few nearby call around first.  Around here small box prices range from $20 to $32 for 6 months.

  2. you would need a P.O. Box, as there is a sign on the counter at the post office stating they can' give out mail over the counter.  Now, if the package is too big to be delivered regularly, then it will go to the post office.

If you put the post office's address on it, they can open it.

Another option, if you don't want it going to your home, is to have it sent to a store like mail boxes etc.  They'll usually take UPS, Fed Ex US Mail, for a fee.

Dare I even ask what you don't want delivered to your home

  3. Wrong place to ask this question.  You should ask it on Ebay or another part of yahoo.   Or try the Post Office and see if they already do that.
