  1. Well you need at least 3 neon tetras, an applesnail or a mystery snail would be good.

  2. Definitely a mystery snail (Pomacea Bridgesii Apple Snail).

I have always kept them with my fish including Tetras, Gouramis, Silver Dollars, Danios, Loaches

They eat algae, algae wafers, blanched peeled peas, lettuce, spinach, cabbage, apples, strawberries, plants (dead and dying usually).

Go for it, you will love them!

A hint, make sure you give them enough calcium for their shells.  Either:

    - hard boiled egg shell, bake in oven at 315 for 15-20 minutes then crush to a fine powder in a mortar and pestle and sprinkle a few pinches in the aquarium (I have done this, it seems to help)

    - well washed and soaked cuttlefish bone  (you should really do a google search to find out how best to prepare)

    - calcium supplements from LFS

    - natural chalk, well washed

  3. Yes, you can get a snail for your tank.  I'd recommend an apple snail or a mystery snail.  They are larger snails and reproduce sexually so you won't get a population explosion that will take over your tank if you only get one.  They eat algae and fish food but will enjoy a veggie treat every once in a while.  If you don't have hard water, they need some extra calcium in their diet to help grow strong shells.  Dill weed is the green highest in calcium and they like it and it's cheap.  They'll also enjoy eating pieces of broccoli, zucchini, green beans, peas, carrots, spinach and lettuce.

You should get some more neon tetras, too, because they like to school and tend to be stressed out and nippy if they can't school properly.  Neons should be kept in groups of 5 or more.
