Can i get a visa category D + C through the french embassy?

I am Peruvian, i am going on exchange to France but first i will like to travel and because of my nationality i need a visa to travel. For this i will like to know if could get a visa D + C, so i travel first and then i return to study.

if that is the case?once you have received your residential card(carte de séjour) in France as an exchange, you may travel within Europe,s long as you have your card with you,
