Can i get auto insurance if i am not on the title or registration?

I just bought a car but had my mother put it in her name because i am trying to buy a house and dont want it on my credit, but i still need to get insurance. Is that possible? Can she gift it over to me even if it is not paid off so i can put it in my name? Also we dont live together so i cant get it through her. PLEASE HELP

  1. Some Companies offer a non-owners policy you just have to call around and check to see.

In most states, Anyone can insure any car they want to insure.  There is no requirement that you must own the car to be able to insure a car.  I have been driving cars titled in a friends name for 25 years and I always buy the insurance for these cars.  I even had a serious accident once, was sued and my insurance paid for everything.  The other persons injuries and the repairs to both vehicles.    No problems !  I don't think your Mother can give you (not GIFT you) the car if it isn't paid off though.

  3. Yes you can,, It's called NON OWNERSHIP . INSURANCE.. And no you can not gift a car when it is not paid off.. But to let you know, as long as she has insurance on it , anyone she lets drive it is coverd,,, But it still would be a good thing to get the non ownership insurance ,,
