Can i get back into cross country shape by school (47 days away)?

ill be a junior next year, and i used to be able to run a 6 30 mile and 21minute 5k, and i got way out of shape. i just picked up the other day and i ran a horrible 8 minute mile (worse than what i had in middle school). im practicing with the xc team, can i get back in shape by school?

  1. Of course once you do it every day! But don't get anxious or disappointed for your time right now. You'll get back to your shape and improve more.


  2. Yes. You need to start a sprint work out program, and work on it 5 times a week, everyday if you can. A good one to start is, jog a lap, sprint a lap, jog 2 laps on the track that equals 1 mile. Increase both the number of laps you jog and sprint over time. Your time may still seem slow, but evenutally you will get faster because you will be able to sprint. I used this to train for a tri and it worked well.

  3. Yeah you can. We just started practice this week. Just make sure no to go too hard or you could end up hurting yourself.

  4. Yes with training you can improve and get back into shape very quickly. The best way to get into shape is to tarin 4-6 days a week.

  5. Yeah, you can get into pretty good shape by then. The first week (this week) just try running every other day for a half hour. The next week, run 4 times a week for a half hour. The next week, run 5 times...You get the idea, and don't worry about how fast your going, just make sure you get the runs in. Also, you don't need to follow the schedule, the idea is to basically run as much as you can without getting hurt and still enjoying it, if you do this I guarantee you'll enjoy yourself and have a great XC season.

    Oh, and please don't listen to the person who said sprint a 100 jog a 100.. The best way to gain endurance is just running at a comfortable pace for at least 30-45 minutes.
