Question:

Can i get counter medication for UTI? (track infection)?

I'm prone to getting track infections and I believe I will need medication again. But I do not have insurance so if there is anything I can get from a store I would rather do that.

I know cranberries help, I'm already taking care of that (pure juice, tablets, I've got it covered).

So would you know of any antibiotics I could get from a store?

  1. You can purchase uva ursi leaves loose from a health food store. This simple herb turns in to a powerful anti-biotic as it passes through the urinary tract (thus, only affective as a urinary anti-biotic). This is a very inexpensive OTC for UTI's.

It is best used as a maceration, as a hot decoction or tea brings out the tanic acid in the leaves and can cause stomach pain. Here is a link to find out how to make a cold maceration:

  2. you can use Cranberry Juice or you can use azo standard it is at walmart. But I would go with the cranberry juice.

  3. D-Mannose is a natural occurring simple sugar that appears to be a safe, practical alternative for the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTI’s).

D-Mannose probably works 80-90% of the time because the bacteria disabled by Mannose causes 80-90% of UTI’s. Whereas antibiotic treatment radically changes GI bacterial populations required for good health, potentially causing fungal or gastrointestinal infections, D-Mannose removes “bad” bacteria by attachment and voiding.

  4. 1) that's urinary TRACT infection (aka bladder infection, cystitis)

    2) it's OVER the counter medication

    3) fluids and cranberry juice help somewhat, but if it doesn't settle in a few days, you need antibiotics, and those are only available by prescription.  Antibiotic use is restricted because they can be harmful if used improperly, and unregulated use of antibiotics leads to antibiotic resistance.

The danger of recurrent UTI that is not treated properly is infection going up into the kidney, which is potentially much more serious (kidney failure, death)

  5. you will be able to find meds over the counter that help with the syptoms of a uti (like burning, etc.)  the only cure for these are antibiotics.  dr's have to write prescriptions for these though.  while in the office, you should ask why you keep getting these infections.  drink plenty of water, wipe front to back if you're a girl, cranberry juice is good because of the acidity.

  6. Drink lots of cranberry juice and water.

Take Uristat or other similar pill (available over the counter) for the pain. (caution: these may make your urine bright orange. This is not dangerous but can be unsettling!)

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure:

    - always wipe front to back

    - urinate after having s*x

    - wear cotton panties

    - don't hold it! If you gotta go, go.

    - make sure any p***s, finger, toy etc is clean before insertion

If there's no improvement within a couple days you really need to see a doctor for a Rx though, otherwise the infection could travel to your kidneys.

  7. Eurythromycin is the antibiotic that you need to get rid of this infection.. If there is irritation to then natural yoghurt is good to take the burning away. Just smooth on externally like a cream. Cranberry jice when drank in copious quantities will help, along with plenty of fresh water.

    Hope you feel better soon.
