  1. It would depend on the policies of your particular workplace and any protection you have from unions, state laws, and so on.

    No employer *should* fire an employee for being ill or pregnant -- but some bosses are a**holes.


  2. Because of your pregnancy, you can qualify for FMLA, which is family medical Leave Act.  It covers you up to 16 weeks, sometimes 12 weeks. If you're part time, they can not guarantee your job.  If you told them you're prego and let you go, find out the reasons. they can't say to you it's because you're prego.  They as a company, need to cover their asses and not get themselves into trouble. If you're full time, then you should be okay.  Ask your personnel department the rules and regulations of being prego and having to take some time off for doctor appts and just being sick.

No, you can take up to 12 weeks off with a doctor's note.  As long as you have been working there for 9 months then you are covered.  I would definitely suggest telling your supervisor that you are pregnant if they don't know already.  Most managers are more sympathetic when they know you aren't just calling in.

  5. Yes.  Being pregnant isn't an excuse for missing work.  Your employer may give you the option of taking an extended leave of absence, without pay, but they do not have to hold your job if you keep calling in sick - no matter what the reason.

  6. You need to check your state laws along with your company policy on sick leave.  If you have a Dr note you maybe ok.
