  1. Think of it this way: you can get resolution only as high as your projector allows.

You don't give a model number, but if, for example, the projector is an 800x600 pixel model (it can probably handle 1280x1024 max from a computer, or 720p/1080i video) it can scale an HD signal to display a lower resolution on the projector. To be sure check the specs on the projector and see whether it will accept a 720p or 1080i video input.

If so, the link is to a component to VGA adapter cable that will allow you to connect from the HD sat box to the projector. Note that you will have to set the output resolution appropriately (probably 720p would work best).

You won't get the world's best picture, but it should work fine. To get better you would have to upgrade the projector.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Yes, you can, as long as your projector/display supports it of course.

PC monitors support much higher resolutions than 720p or 1080p.

It all depends on your video card. Don't expect 1080p, but 720p or 1080i should not be an issue.

The problem though is that it may be easier to buy a new projector that support DVI or HDMI rather trying to buy a converter from component to VGA for your set-top box.

So before you spend any money, check the resolution specs of your projector.

  3. No. HD has to be with a Component or HDMI input. Sounds like your projector is not compatible with HD. Probably does not have the resolution.

  4. It really depends on the video processing capability of your projector. I have an Epson projector with a VGA input that will do 720p or 1080i .  I use a component video cable that converts to VGA to connect it to my Comcast set top box, and it works fine.

Here's an example of the type of cable I am talking about:

they are cheap on ebay, but expensive if you buy them from the manufacturer.

Just make sure that your projector can handle HD, it should tell you on the projector specs. Good luck.
